The Federal Vision For Healthcare IT: A Dystopian Paradise

In a year not too distant, Loretta, a woman in her late 20s, hears a pleasant tone from her watch and checks to see a text. The message isn’t from a friend or work, it’s from the watch itself: “You’re pregnant.” Loretta is surprised; conception was merely days before. But pregnancy is one of the many tests constantly checked by her wearable and household technology. Read More

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is the best movie of 2015: Our Top 10

LOS ANGELES — For big, fun, populist popcorn movies, 2015 was a grand fireworks show with a blowout finale. For quiet adult dramas and prestige films, it started with a pop … and ended in a fizzle.

That’s why I struggled mightily to fill out a Top 10 for 2015, the biggest year ever at the North American box office. It’s also why this list is overwhelmed with blockbusters and populist hits.

And none packed more firepower than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mashable’s No. 1 movie of the year. Using a “best-in-show” mentality — that the biggest prize goes to the most fulfilling representation of its breed — there really is no contest in the Year of the Blockbuster. Read more…

Online video chased Millennial moms in 2015, with Snooki and JWoww's help

From 2009 through 2012, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jennifer “JWoww” Farley were known as part of the partying crew on MTV’s The Jersey Shore. They then moved on to their own spin-off reality show Snooki & JWoww.

Now, the BFFs — who both have kids — have “swapped bottle service for bottle feeding” with their new show Moms with Attitude, from AwesomenessTV’s digital millennial mom network Awestruck.

It may seem odd to have the former party animals helm a show about motherhood, but Polizzi and Farley’s online series, available on Verizon’s go90 platform and YouTube, is just the latest example of the digital entertainment industry’s efforts to expand content geared toward millennial moms over the past year. Where Are All The Women In White Hats?

America needs cyber talent — especially among women. Without a capable workforce to secure the smartphone in your hand or the highly classified networks our government operates within, our economy and national security will be at risk. We need to nurture a pool of interested young men and women to go into science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs. The troubling news is… Read More

Russia sentences blogger to 5 years in Siberian prison as Internet crackdown intensifies

Russia on Wednesday sentenced a blogger in the city of Tomsk to five years in a Siberian prison for “inciting extremism and hatred” after he criticized Russian military intervention in Ukraine in videos he posted to YouTube and Vkontakte, Russia’s version of Facebook

The unusually harsh decision against Vadim Tyumentsev, which also bans him from publishing any content online for three years after his sentence ends, is the latest evidence that the Russian government appears set to intensify its crackdown on dissenters online and that it is willing to dole out real prison terms to keep them quiet. This is not a drill: Someone made a pie out of an In-N-Out burger

Foodbeast might want to kill you.

In a new video, the artery cloggers of the Internet stuff three In-N-Out burgers (and a heaping of fries) into a crust and create the monstrosity that is the In-N-Out Pie.

It’s almost like a mythical beast that you never knew you believed in — until now

And if you watch close enough, you can feel your heart just giving up.

Jennifer Lawrence didn't get the pizza she wanted after winning an Oscar

What good is an Oscar if you still can’t get the pizza you want?

JLaw and fellow Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne sat down with Graham Norton to explain why being nominated for, and winning awards, isn’t really that great. Lawrence discussed the dark underbelly of success with an anecdote about her existential crisis the night she took home an Oscar.

“It was a series of things, it was a birth control confusion, so I was hormonal. I fell on my face. I forgot to thank the director,” Lawrence explained. “So I was just like, ‘What does it all mean?’ Nothing!’ I came home crying, and then my friend ordered the wrong pizza. It was thick crust, it wasn’t thin crust.” Read more…

A kayaker with a GoPro managed to rescue a scared little squirrel in a flood

This little squirrel was up a creek without a paddle, quite literally, until one flood surveyor in Fenton, Missouri managed to rescue him with a kayak.

“I saw this little guy jump and try to swim for a bigger tree for safety but the current was just too strong,” YouTube uploader Tony Weiss writes. “You can see him jump from the tree in front of me and start swimming but the current was quickly pulling him downstream. I know squirrels don’t understand english but I couldn’t help but yell out some positive encouragement.”

Fortunately, the little squirrel managed to use the kayak to leap to higher ground — and hopefully stay dry! Read more…

Totally chill cat is totally terrified of this inanimate object

Cats might have sharp teeth, sharper nails and badass personalities, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not like the rest of us. They’ve got feelings, too.

Take this super chill cat, who sits next to a super chill toaster. All is calm, all is peaceful — until the toaster pops, and the cat goes with it.

The cat quickly recovers, but what a glorious jump it is.

Grisly death on cruise ship resembled 'scene of The Shining'

A Florida family taking a Christmas cruise was shocked by the scene of a terrible death on board a Carnival Cruise Line ship.

On Sunday, electrician Jose Sandoval Opazo, 66, was killed while working on an elevator on the Carnival Ecstasy, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

“Somebody was inside or behind that wall when the elevator came down,” cruise passenger Matt Davis told WFTX. “I don’t know what happened, but something terrifying happened.”

“To look and see the elevator with just blood coming down like a sheet, and not stopping … it was a real life scene of ‘The Shining.'”

Davis recorded video of the elevator doors trying to close, according to CNN. Read more…
