Australian TV hosts have priceless reactions to enormous Great White shark

Sometimes even Australians get freaked out by their wildlife

After watching footage of a bus-sized Great White shark leaping out of the water, Australian Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson both had the same reaction: NOPE NOPE NOPE. The pair’s stunned faces pretty much say it all.

Such an enormous predator is a pretty good reason to stay out of the water and away from cage-diving, according to Karl: “Just go to the local pool … like that little cage is gonna help ya.”

The wrath of Harry Styles has devastated SeaWorld's reputation

Seaworld is hurting — and it’s partially Harry Styles’ fault.

Analysts at Credit Suisse says that the much-maligned animal theme park’s brand is in trouble — and part of the turmoil can be attributed to the boy bander’s declaration that dolphin fans shouldn’t go to SeaWorld

The analysis, according to Business Insider, says that SeaWorld has seen a 400% spike in mentions, and a 13% increase in negative commentary month-over-month. And the ratio of positive to negative comments was negative 68%— showing that Harry has single-handedly showered pain on the amusement park’s reputation.

NASA flies you past Pluto in new animation

A NASA animation puts you in the driver’s seat as the New Horizons spacecraft flew by Pluto in July

The 23-second video gets you up-close-and-personal with Pluto and its largest moon, Charon, as the New Horizons probe speeds past the dwarf planet system.

“This animation, made with real images taken by New Horizons, begins with Pluto flying in for its close-up on July 14; we then pass behind Pluto and see the atmosphere glow in sunlight before the sun passes behind Charon,” NASA said in the video description

“The movie ends with New Horizons’ departure, looking back on each body as thin crescents.” Read more…

Alabama fishermen haul in the catch of a lifetime: two cute kittens

Two men fishing off of a boat on the Warrior River in Alabama were surprised by a duo of swimming kittens approaching their boat

The kittens seem to have jumped into the water upon seeing the boat, looking to be rescued. After the first kitten was helped on board, the second quickly followed suit, jumping into the water and swimming the distance to the boat.

Definitely a bigger commitment than the typical catch, but totally worth it.

Woman shares her incredible recovery story via selfies on Imgur

Three years ago, Annie Moore’s life changed forever. Now she’s sharing her journey with the entire Internet.

In August 2012, Moore woke up one morning unable to feel anything below her waist. According to her 17-image post on Imgur, doctors “discovered that I had slipped disks in my spine causing compression on my spinal cord and lumbar radiculopathy down my left.”

Moore had surgery for a herniated disc to correct the problem, but her recovery became complicated after she was involved in a car accident soon after.

“The car accident reversed everything the operation had done for me, causing my disks to slip again and for the pain to return. In the last three years, the only time I have been completely pain free was the month between my operation and the accident,” she wrote. Read more…

Bog snorkeling championship is the murkiest sport we've ever seen

We’ve never seen a sport quite like bog snorkeling.

Competitors don their finest shark fins to swim through murky bog waters, with the fastest swimmer taking home the crown. The twist? No conventional swim strokes allowed — which means a lot of doggy paddling.

The annual World Bog Snorkeling Championship in Wales attracted dozens of snorkelers from around the globe. It also doubled as a fundraiser — this year’s proceeds were donated through the ‘Always With a Smile’ foundation.

Google's OnHub is an easy router that cures bad Wi-Fi

For most people, a Wi-Fi router is like a Ronco rotisserie: You set it and forget it. These often ugly networking boxes have one job: Give us Wi-Fi or else we’ll freak the hell out (and it won’t be pretty).

When Google announced its own Wi-Fi router, called the OnHub and designed by TP-Link, I vehemently shrugged it off and successfully convinced a Mashable intern to cancel his pre-order for the $199 device and Save His Money™.

Then the OnHub arrived for testing and I started to warm up to its promises of faster and better Wi-Fi coverage through intelligent software, not to mention super-simple setup via an app. Read more…
